In the Beginning

Man and woman lie
beneath the azure sky.
No need for shame.
No need for blame.

Perfectly formed,
to His image conformed.
Placed in a garden of trees,
free from death and disease.

Till Serpent’s lie believed-
the woman hence deceived.
Sweet fruit of the tree she ate,
and shared it with her mate.

Thus, the landscape changed;
two from Him became estranged.
And from the garden barred-
a flaming sword would guard.

Now, cursed to work the earth.
Now, cursed with pain in childbirth.
Fig leaves transformed to hides.
Now, both man and beast would die.

Yet hope would reign one day.
And peace emerge to stay,
when sin defeated at the cross
delivers Serpent’s final loss.
