in a small sense

raspberry muffins on a Sunday
and a walk in the park
lemonade nights
being careful not to step
on the crickets in the dark.

fuzzy caterpillars
on the tiniest of feet
chewing endless
herbal carpets
in the dripping noonday heat.

mulberry clenched
in a blackbird’s beak
gray snakes slither
to the sound of the toad
on the bank of the creek.

budding bluebonnets
brave the whistling wild
beating heart hastening
eager hands to greet them
on the legs of a child.
