Carl Cricket (young poets)

Carl Cricket
sang his song
to no one special
all night long.

Or so he thought
that no one cared
to listen to
the song he shared.

To himself
he sang each night,
till nighttime
brought the morning light.

While just knee-high
to a grasshopper,
Carl was a real
showstopper!

He sang to moon,
He sang to stars.
He sang to Venus
and to Mars.

He sang to fields.
He sang to trees.
His song was carried
overseas.

To kings and queens,
who stood and bowed,
whose ears heard
Carl sing so proud.

For though that cricket
was so small,
his voice was not
so small at all!
